History and Evolution

Grupo Disco was formed between 1989-1991 as a result of the creation of several companies by Accesorios Frigoríficos, S.A. (Afrisa) with the intention of forming a group on the Iberian peninsula responsible for distributing technical products for industrial refrigeration and air conditioning markets.

Afrisa (Accesorios Frigoríficos, S.A.) was founded in 1962 as a company which markets refrigeration products and components. In 1974 the company signed exclusive distribution agreements for Spain, and later Portugal, for Copeland manufacturers, world leader in the manufacture of compressors for refrigeration and air conditioning. It then became necessary to create a separate auxiliary structure, Compactos Frigoríficos, for the assembly of condensing units.
In 1988, as a result of the renegotiation of distribution agreements with Copeland, Afrisa once again became the distributor for the most well-known and prestigious product manufacturers for these markets. Agreements were later signed with Latorre, S.L. and Comercial P. Valls to become part of Grupo Disco, and Afrisa became the majority shareholder. Disco Madrid, Disco Málaga and Disco Lisboa distributors were created both previously and simultaneously. The company is currently in a situation to expect substantial development over the coming years. The new, modern facilities in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid), built specifically for the company, include 1900 m2 of office space and an adjacent warehouse measuring 6400 m2, which also houses a point of sale to cater to the eastern sector of Madrid. The building is custom-built with all the latest technology in communications, multiple facilities, an audio-visual training centre, etc.

The company employs 103 staff members and has points of sale in A Coruña, Cordoba, Palma de Mallorca, Seville, Valladolid, Vigo and Madrid (Torrejón de Ardoz, Getafe and Madrid)

Disco Madrid

Disco Madrid was set up as a distributor for the central area of Spain, Castilla y Leon and Galicia, later incorporating western Andalucia. In 1997 Afrisa took over the business activities and human resources of Disco Madrid, and the company has since remained inactive. The primary asset of Disco Madrid is the Grupo Disco corporate name, which it still owns.

Latorre, S.L.

Latorre, S.L. began business activities in the 1960s in response to a need to cover the emerging sector of industrial cooling, and with the objective of specialising in the marketing and distribution of cooling units, components and accessories for the wholesale cooling and air conditioning industry.

The company was established in Valencia in 1963, and over the next three years the family business expanded, with branches opening in Murcia, Gijon, Zaragoza, San Sebastian and Barcelona.

Following several decades of expansion as a family business and as the result of a successful business strategy, the company became part of Grupo Disco in 1989. This move entailed both a complete organisational restructuring for Latorre and the expansion of the company’s commercial network, strengthening it through the incorporation of new branches in Alicante and Albacete.

Right from the start, Latorre has maintained a policy of ongoing improvement and expansion of its commercial network, making it possible for the company to have 9 branches open today. The various sites manage purchasing, warehousing, logistics, sales and technical departments. The company’s head office is located in Valencia.
We can find clear evidence of this progressive expansion in the fact that in just three years, three new branches have been opened: Latorre Canarias in 2004 and Latorre Bilbao and Castellon in 2005. Latorre is thus able to ensure a more localised service to cover the market needs of the entire nation.

Latorre’s more than 40 years of service in the industrial cooling sector make it one of the first companies in the market, working with all the top brands and suppliers in the sector.

Disco Lisboa (Distribuidora Comercial del Frio Lisboa, S.L.)

was constituted in 1991 with the participation of the shareholders of Portugal’s largest manufacturing and installation company in the sector. Later, in 1994, these shares were bought up and Grupo Disco became practically the sole shareholder of the company, with nearly 100% of the shares.

The central Discolis installations are located near the Lisbon airport, where the company has 800 m2 of offices and industrial premises. The company also has two branches in the north of Portugal: one in Braga and the other in Aveiro. The company employs 22 staff members.

In 1997, as the consequence of a split in Grupo Corporación Frigorífica, Grupo Palm took over Grupo Disco through its 100% subsidiary, Corporación Frigorífica 2.
